The Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas owns and operates the Texas Scottish Rite Library and Museum in Waco, Texas. The Library and Museum was erected by the Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas in commemoration of the Centennial Year of Scottish Rite Masonry in our Great State of Texas which was observed in 1967.This multi-purpose building provides a central location for the preservation of historical records; a museum for the display of interesting and valuable artifacts; a library for the scholar and general public to study and do research; an educational facility to acquaint the public with Masonry and its principles and programs; and a common meeting place for the Scottish Rite Masons of Texas. The Foundation is pleased to make the facilities available to the public for events such as: seminars, lectures, banquets, receptions and other events, subject to our guidelines and regulations. The building was constructed with limestone from the quarries in Bedford, Indiana. The interior was done with Italian travertine, domestic marble, hand-rubbed walnut paneling and a variety of other beautiful and decorative wall coverings. On each side of the front entrance as you approach the building is a large white sphinx. One is the symbol of Wisdom, with eyes half closed, and the other, with eyes wide open, symbolizes Power. An inscription carved into the corner-stone of the building reads: THIS LIBRARY AND MUSEUM HOUSES GIFTS MADE IN THE HOPE THAT THE TRUTH AND WISDOM OF KNOWLEDGE WILL SOMEDAY ILLUMINATE THE WORLD.
Building operation, maintenance and administration are all performed by the Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas through contributions only. If you would like to contribute to this worthy endeavor, please contact us via the various methods available on this Web Site. We deeply appreciate any and all contributions on behalf of this great enterprise undertaken by the Scottish Rite Masons of Texas.
